Farm to Market fingerless mittens are closely fitted with a thumb gusset. The double cable winds around each other given the top of the hand visual interest. Written for DK weight yarn, these mitts knit up fast making them great for gifts. You will need two cable needles to execute the Farm to Market cable.
Instructions for this pattern are written for using the magic loop method, but you may easily substitute your preferred method for small circumference knitting. The cable pattern is charted and written for personal preference. All measurements are given in US and metric.
YARN: 14o yd / 128 m of DK weight. Shown in Polka Dot Sheep Stumptown DK Campfire (red) and Dusty Road (brown)
NEEDLES: Instructions are written for the magic loop method using a long cable length circular needle, but you may substitute the needle type for your preferred method of small circumference knitting (double pointed needle, two circulars, etc) in the following sizes:
- US 5 / 3.75 mm
- US 6 / 4 mm
TOOLS: Two cable needles, tapestry needle
GAUGE: 22 stitches and 32 rows over 4" / 10 cm in stockinette stitch using larger needles
SIZING: Women's one size
- 6.5 - 8" / 16.5 - 20.5 cm
TO FIT: Measure hand around the palm above (but not including) thumb
