Chief Cliff.  A nod to the impressive sentinel that looms above the town of Elmo, MT.  Chief Cliff is a sacred monument to the Kootenai people who live near its base.  Our namesake color is a deep gold with coppery undertones.  It's great for colorwork, lace, cables, and it stands alone proud in any project.

This hand-dyed color is available on all our yarn bases, click here to learn more. Shop updates are uploaded weekly, so if we are out of your color choice, check back soon.

We have taken great effort to ensure that our photos are as true to color as possible.  However, due to the hand-dyed process and differences in yarn bases, variations in color and patterning may occur.  Your individual monitor settings can also cause the appearance of the color on the screen to differ from our actual photograph.

For best results, we recommend alternating skeins as you work. Purchase adequate amounts to complete your project.

    Chief Cliff Stumptown DK

Posted by Celeste Tyson on 27th Nov 2023

I ordered this "Chief Cliff" color to add to some of my "Melisandre" and "Gallatin" I have for an old fashioned take on a Christmas project ....wanted to use some different Xmas colors. But I will also use this color to add to some of my "Kestril" yarn for another project. Always get the best colors that I cannot find elsewhere !

    Beautiful on every base

I’ve heard Chief Cliff on whitefish worsted, Stumptown, DK, tenderfoot DK, Snow Ghost, and big mountain. It’s an absolutely gorgeous rich neutral gold on all of them. I think I’ve been in love with this colour for like 6 years now. ?

    Making my 4th beanie

I’ve just learned to crochet, jumping right in by making beanie hats for my girls. Always get a comment about the beautiful lush yarn. Big Mountain and Big Sky bulky yarns are perfect for my beanie projects. The people there and the service are awesome!
