Rocky Coastline Shawl by Aimee Alexander
Inspired by the rugged beauty of the shoreline, the Rocky Coastline Shawl is an asymmetrical design that combines beautiful color, texture, and thoughtful shaping.
The shawl uses two colors: a Polka Dot Sheep Striata gradient paired with a semi solid Iron Horse. It is also a wonderful stash friendly project, perfect for using mini skeins, leftovers, or those special odds and ends you have been saving.
Short-rows serve several purposes throughout the design. They frame the lower edge in garter stitch, highlight the textured Anemone Stitch, and create a longer neck edge for a comfortable, flattering fit.

MATERIALS
Yarn: Fingering. Shown in Polka Dot Sheep Iron Horse & Striata.
- Color A (Iron Horse in Dusty Road): 437 yd / 400 m
- Color B (Striata in Rainbow Wall): 437 yd / 400 m
Needles: US 4 / 3.50 mm
Notions: A tape measure and a darning needle for weaving in ends.

22 stitches and 40 rows to 4” / 10 cm using US 4 / 3.5mm

- Wingspan: 64” / 162.5 cm

GENERAL NOTES
- The short rows are multifunctional. They keep the lower edge framed in garter stitch, highlight the anemone stitch, and, most importantly, create a longer neck edge for a better fit.
- There is no need to cut the yarn between color changes. Carry the unused color up the side of the work, tacking it under the second stitch of each row as you go.
