This basic sock pattern is one we use again and again in our shoppe for teaching socks. Though the pattern is written for using 5 double point needles, it’s easy to adapt for using two-circular, magic loop, or one 8” circular needle.
The instructions are written line-by-line through the heel flap making it quite easy to follow.
The best feature of this pattern is an “about socks” section that describes in 4 easy steps how to adjust the size of any traditional gusseted sock. Once you read this section, you’ll be making socks for newborns, toddlers, and men with really large feet using only this pattern.
YARN: 350 (450) yd / 230 (410) m of fingering weight yarn. Socks are pictured in PDS Tenderfoot 80/20 in Juneberry.
NEEDLES: US 1.5 / 2.5 mm set of five double point needles.
NOTIONS: Darning needle, stitch markers, and tape measure.

Easy to follow
I started using the 5 needle sock pattern years ago. For me, it's faster than magic loop. When my sister-in-law was here for a visit she asked me about the socks I knit. When I showed her the pattern, she was all in. So I ordered it for her. She is back home knitting 5 needle socks today.
